Switzerland

Did you know that Rottweil maintains an unbroken link with the Swiss Confederation that dates back to 1463? Even without such a treaty, relations between the two countries would have been close, given that the journey from Gosheim to Schaffhausen near the Rhine Falls takes just one hour by car. This natural spectacle is one of the main attractions for excursions into our neighboring country. Followed by the Swiss Science Center Technorama in Winterthur, which takes a hands-on approach to scientific learning. Those who still have time on their hands can go shopping in Zurich's Bahnhofsstrasse and old town.

Balingen / Hohenzollern

Culture takes center stage in Balingen. Exhibitions of famous artists such as Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, Emil Nolde, Joan Miro and Gustav Klimt attract visitors from around the world. The oldest museum of local history in the area provides an interactive historical account of everyday life. And a museum of weighing scales is dedicated to the city's most important industry. Hohenzollern Castle remains in family ownership to this day. Built in the neo-Gothic style, it houses displays objects of artistic and historic importance from the protestant Prussian age and its kings.

Danube Valley

The Danube Valley is a place of peace and tranquillity where unusual plants and animals such as Peregrine Falcons and lynxes happily co-exist with visiting hikers, bikers, climbers, anglers and canoeists. Rising up on a rocky outcrop that is visible for miles around is Sigmaringen Castle – the seat of the catholic Hohenzollern princes, which resembles the backdrop to a romantic fairytale. Not far away is the baroque Benedictine monastery of Beuron (a living place of pilgrimage and a monument housing important works of art) and the open-air museum in Neuhausen ob Eck (historical country life).

Black Forest

There's more to the Black Forest than cuckoo clocks and cherry gateau. The view from Feldberg takes in forests, rivers, ravines, high pastures, moors and waterfalls – such as those in Triberg. The Titisee is one of Europe's cleanest bathing lakes. Take the "Sauschwänzlebahn" museum train for a more slow-paced trip. Enjoy the wonderful atmosphere aboard this steam train, traveling in the old carriages that carried our great grandparents swaying through the romantic landscape. And in the old mills and sawmills, in the rooms and barns of the "Vogtsbauernhof" farm museums, time also seems to stand still. For a total contrast, visit the Europa Park Rust – Germany's largest adventure park.

Lake of Constance

Those wishing to experience what country life was once like should visit the open-air museum in Neuhausen ob Eck on the route from Gosheim to the "Swabian Sea" before enjoying art and culture against a historical backdrop in Constance and Meersburg. Fans of technology will enjoy a visit to the Zeppelin Museum, while anyone with an interest in history simply must take a tour of the Bronze Age stilt houses in Unteruhldingen. Other main attractions are accessible by boat: the floral paradise of Mainau island and Rechenau island, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Rottweil

Founded by the Romans in 73 A.D. as "Arae Flavia", the oldest city in Baden-Württemberg is just 16 km from the Hermle headquarters. Its preserved Late Medieval center features town houses decorated with oriel windows, wrought-iron signs and numerous churches. The Carnival of Rottweil is one of the oldest and most traditional of the Swabian-Alemannic carnivals. The gunpowder factory of entrepreneur and industrialist Max Duttenhofer in the Neckar valley was once also an important landmark. Today, its power station serves as a venue for concerts, arts and crafts as well as corporate events.

Gosheim

The Swabian Alps – a popular hiking area and home to ten famous thousand-meter mountains: Hochberg, Oberhohenberg, Wandbühl, Montschenloch, Bol, Rainen, Hummelsberg, Hochwald, Kehlen and Lemberg. At the top of the latter is the Lemberg tower of Gosheim. Although smaller than the Eiffel Tower at just 33 meters in height, its steel skeleton structure was regarded as a similar technical marvel when it was erected in 1899. On a clear day, you can even see the Alps from its viewing platform, not to mention the Hohenkarpfen mountain with its museum of art from southwest Germany.
